The Aims and Objectives

The goal of the Association shall be the enhancement of health care through effective application of laser and related technologies in all fields of medicine including, but not limited to, surgery, dentistry, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, cosmetics and veterinary medicine.

Pursuing this primary goal the main aims of the Association shall be:
○ promoting application of laser and related technologies in health protection of citizens, professional and scientific practice.
○ gathering and uniting experts in theory and practice of laser medicine, phototherapy and related fields. ○ encouraging education, research, scientific exchange and intellectual contact to provide progress in laser medicine, phototherapy and related fields.
○ protecting interests of professionals working with laser and related technologies.
○ encouraging medical subjects in introducing quality systems to enhance application of laser technologies.

In pursuance of the above aims EMLA will undertake, among other actions and activities, the following:
○ organisation, co-ordination and patronage of relevant meetings, congresses, conferences, symposiums, training courses, round-tables and other scientific forums, at both national and international levels,
○ dissemination of relevant information between laser professionals by using web services, mass media, by publishing high quality original research papers, clinical reports, commentaries etc. providing information basis for clinical applications and future research in laser medicine and related fields,
○ function as a monitoring and advisory body on issues concerning laser medicine and related fields in Europe,
○ provide clinical expertise, consultations, evaluations and/or inspections of medical laser devices clinical practices, and practice settings in order to promote and enhance the quality of clinical care as well as to provide a basis for relevant studies in this field,
○ promotion of continuing professional education and development in laser medicine and related fields,
○ establishment and maintenance of a database of relevant publications in a format accessible to all members of EMLA and associated national societies,
○ promotion of centres of excellence for teaching, training and research,
○ facilitation of contacts between existing European national organisations which govern application and promote laser and light applications in the same area of interest,
○ action as liaison with relevant government and European Union bodies,
○ recognise national and international societies and associations, individual members, as well as developers and manufacturers of laser and related equipment,
○ support education of general public about advantages of laser applications in medicine and related fields,
○ development and maintenance, when deemed necessary, standards of education and professional competency for application of lasers and related technologies in public health care,
○ promotion of proper ethical standards for professionals, working in laser medicine and related fields, ○ carry out any other activity in accordance with the above.
